Building Takeovers in Miami and Beyond: A Reportback

Right this minute, members and organizers from Picture the Homeless; are down in Miami, learning from the dynamic work of Take Back the Land.

INCIDENT REPORT: "People need to know what goes on in the system..."

Recently, we received a copy of the following INCIDENT REPORT, from a homeless woman who fled from the shelter where she had been living, after an abusive encounter with a staff person. She wrote this report to the director of the shelter, but she also sent us a copy and told us:

"Put it on the blog...

Article in the New York Beacon: "Searching the Subways for the Mayor"

The New York Beacon has a phenomenal article about last week's "Hunting for Mayor Bloomberg" direct action in the subways. See below for the entire thing! Special thanks to longtime PTH ally Donna Lamb, whose journalism always does justice to the awesome work of our members.

Retreating to Move Forward

I ran into the woods last weekend. A bunch of homeless people went with me.... to Ossining, where the geese, the skunks and the wild turkeys have the run of the Bailey Farms.

Hunting for Mayor Bloomberg

Mayor Bloomberg rides the subway to and from work every day, to prove that in spite of his billions of dollars he's still a "man of the people." Of course, the doors to City Hall are shut to poor people... he won't meet with us, or give us a place at the table in shaping the policies and programs that impact their lives.

Mayor Bloomberg: Shut up and Listen.

My name is Maria T. Walles, and I'm a member of Picture the Homeless. We had an action on Tuesday February 3rd at 1PM with the Right to the City coalition. The protesters went inside the Grand Hyatt to inform Mr. Bloomberg how we felt, about how he's not listening to the homeless people and working people. We have a voice. Our voice was heard.

Statement from the Inside!

Here's a message from one of our members who is still behind bars from yesterday's excellent disruption of Mayor Bloomberg's elitist "Future of NYC" luncheon. Rob just called us up from the bullpen... despite being held for over 24 hours, he was in good spirits and sounded very energized to KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!

Avoiding the Usual Runaround

By Hugh Pressley
Housing Committee leader

I recently got back from Albany, where I went on a lobbying trip. I had a very nice time. I was representing Picture the Homeless on a Housing Housing and Now trip to ask state senators to repeal vacancy decontrol.

I was slightly disappointed in some of the senators.
