PTH Civil Rights campaign on disorderly conduct ... moving forward from January 21 summit
Submitted by admin on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 00:35.
Picture the Homeless's Civil Rights Campaign thanks everyone who attended and supported our January 21 summit on the NYPD's abuse of the disorderly conduct statute. Checkout this write-up in the Indypendent We appreciate the Center for Constitutional Rights for hosting -- and much appreciate the participation of George Bethos of NYC AIDS Housing Network / VOCAL NY Users Union, Lalit Clarkson of Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, and the courageous Juanita Young of the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality and Parents Against Police Brutality. Within PTH, we thank Maria and Salaam for running the show, and Carlos for his always-blazing poetry.
*** you MUST checkout this hot video on Dis Con produced by Picture the Homeless's Civil Rights Campaign members! ***
Coming out of the summit, the individuals and organizations strengthened their shared commitment to work together on a campaign to reduce the harms of reckless NYPD abuse of Disorderly Conduct -- demanding the recognition that Dis Con is never an arrestable violation, and that police be required to specify a person's alleged violation if issuing a ticket. The participants in the January 21 summit are gonna stay in touch -- and step up our action, real soon! Stay tuned...
