PTH's 10th Anniversary Gala on November 17! Plug in now...

Ten years!  That's how long it's been since Lewis Haggins and Anthony Williams, two homeless men, took the first steps in challenging the system of stigma, criminalization, and poverty through urgent and creative homeless-led organizing. Picture the Homeless has come a long way, with thousands of members and allies around NYC and the world building on this vision.

To celebrate our achievements and all the people who made it possible, we're having our 10th Anniversary Gala on November 17 -- at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan, our first home & one of our dearest friends every step of the way.   We'll be honoring Brenda Stokely for her leadership in struggles for human rights and liberation, and as a most vital teacher and key ally to PTH over the years.  We'll be honoring Jean Rice, a PTH member since our early days and our ambassador to Brazil, West Virginia and around the five boroughs.  He has become one of the leading lights of the NYC social justice movement, inspiring people from every walk of life with his 70 years of wisdom, brilliant intellect, compassion and humor.  Witness Mr. Rice's skills & magic:  on learning about racism at an early age, prosecuting Bloomberg, and analyzing the question of land in the U.S. over the centuries.  The people love you, Jean!

And we'll have the blazing Welfare Poets performing (checkout the new album Warn Them if you haven't already!).  The Gala will be a momenteous night for Picture the Homeless, as we will celebrate 10 years of grassroots organizing, building the leadership and collective voice of homeless people in the struggle for social justice.  It takes a lot of different relationships to build a movement, and our Gala will bring together a wide variety of members and friends (including you reading this, we hope!) to celebrate our past and support us into the future.
