This Week At The Homeless Organizing Academy!

The Homeless Organizing Academy is a weekly series of FREE trainings, open to all homeless and formerly-homeless people, designed for them to get the skills and experience they'll need to fight for justice—and pursue employment as community organizers! Classes are taught by PTH staff, PTH members, and guest instructors with expertise and experience in each topic. Everyone is welcomed regardless of experience!

 

Monday 5/7 YOUR MEDIA: Countering Police Brutality @ 2:00-4:00pm

When The Cops Act Up, What Do We Do?... STAND UP, FIGHT BACK! 

And we know the abuses don't stop on the street but continue when mainstream news continues to stereotype the homeless as criminals. Join PTH in a workshop on developing media to address police abuses against our communities. Hold the NYPD accountable and share your stories through video blogging, audio recordings and writing. 

Computer Lab @ 4:00-5:00pm

Need access to a computer? Are you interested in learning and advancing your computer skills? Than join us in an hour computer lab session to learn basic computer skills one on one with a computer instructor. Basic computer skills include, learning how to operate a computer, setting up an email account, using search engines, and other Microsoft Office programs. 

 

Tuesday 5/8:  Campaign Strategies: Mapping Power @ WORKSHOP CANCELLED

Wednesday 5/9:  Sustainability & Wellness Planning Workshop @ 2:00-4:00pm

Is your wellness a priority in your life? If the answer is sometimes or rarely than this workshop is for you! Explore what it takes to be a PTH leader and not burn yourself out with too many commitments to meetings, protests and your personal life. In this session we will create discuss what it means to achieve wellness and create sustainability plans for awesome organizers!

Friday 5/11:  PowerPoint Presentation [COMPUTER CLASS]  @ 5:00-7:00pm

Do you want to feel and be  prepared for today's job and education market? Join this computer workshop session and learn basic skills used to create PowerPoint presentations. PowerPoint is presentation software from Microsoft that is used not just for presentations at meetings but is also used for educational purposes on the web.
